Sonic Origins collects and remasters the first four platform video games in Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog series: Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992), Sonic CD (1993), and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (1994).

These games were originally released for the Sega Mega Drive and Sega CD. Also included is the “Blue Spheres” minigame from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The player controls Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, and Knuckles the Echidna as they try to avoid for Doctor Robotnik to steal the Chaos Emeralds. Characters traverse side-scrolling levels at high speeds as they collect rings, defeat enemies and bosses, and find secrets. Unlike the original games, the player can control Tails and Knuckles in any game, with the exception of Knuckles in Sonic CD.Sonic Origins features two versions of each game: “Classic mode” is the original format, presented in a 4:3 aspect ratio, while “Anniversary mode” features widescreen support and removes lives. “Story mode” allows players to play all four games in sequence, with new animated cutscenes.

New modes include a Boss rush mode in which players must take on bosses one after another; a Mirror mode that reverses level designs; and a missions mode that challenges players to complete specific objectives. Playing these modes allows the player to earn coins and purchase content at an in-game museum or extra attempts on special stages.

Players who pre-order the game will start with 100 coins and Mirror Mode unlocked. Menu aesthetics, a set of more difficult missions, and music from Sonic Spinball (1993), Knuckles’ Chaotix (1995), and Sonic 3D Blast (1996) for the museum’s music player are available as downloadable content.Relive the classic collected adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD in the newly remastered Sonic Origins!
